Academics

Founded in 1911 as a Teachers’ College, ETSU has grown into a multifaceted four-year public liberal arts university, offering over 140 academic programs in subjects including the sciences, business, health sciences, the arts, and technology. With an enrollment of around 14,500 students, we are large enough to offer a wealth of academic opportunities. However our average class size is 20 students, which means we can offer you the personal attention you deserve. Student Life

There are more than 240 student organizations for you to choose from, including honor societies, service organizations, intramural athletics, political organizations, social organizations, faith-based organizations and social fraternities and sororities. You may take advantage of the nationally and world renowned art exhibits, film screenings and performances brought to campus by the Mary B. Martin School for the Arts or cheer on the Bucs as they compete in NCAA Division I Athletics. Add your voice to the political, social and academic conversations that are brought to campus by guest speakers. ETSU students are active, engaged and involved.

At ETSU we believe the campus community should be reflective of the world around us. We celebrate diversity and the academic, social, and cultural benefits that it brings to the entire student body. Our students come from 43 US states and 70 countries. Together they form a diverse and inclusive community that honors heritage and celebrates individuality. Our new Multicultural Center will provide students from all cultural backgrounds with educational support programs and services. ETSU’s student activity calendar is filled with special events like the Multicultural Expo, Multicultural Showcase and Unity Fest that facilitate cultural exchange and promote global understanding. We also have organizations designed to bring international students and domestic students together, like the International Student Association or our International Buccaneer Buddies program.
