Academics

We are ranked among the nation’s top public universities, and we’re on an aggressive path to join our peers in the country’s Top 25. Accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, we are Tennessee's largest research institution, leading the state in the number of degrees awarded annually. From eleven colleges, our students receive undergraduate, graduate, and professional degrees from more than 300 programs.

Our growing honors programs, including the prestigious Chancellor’s Honors and Haslam Scholars, give students the chance to create their own interdisciplinary experience and open doors for research and intellectual exploration well beyond our campus. Our students have gone on to enroll in top graduate programs, become Rhodes Scholars, live and work abroad, and become leaders of communities across the United States.

Our faculty is composed of passionate instructors and world-renowned scholars. Faculty and staff work together to help our students succeed and set a high standard of excellence in teaching, research, and service.

As one of the nation’s leading public research institutions, we are committed to providing our students with the highest quality education and the best overall student experience possible. The opportunities we provide for our students reflect this dedication to research, academics, and personal growth.

Student Life

Our students build a strong foundation through challenging coursework, ongoing academic support, and countless chances to learn outside the classroom. Several learning communities provide our freshmen distinctive opportunities to connect with classmates, develop valuable skills, become involved in campus life, and ultimately enjoy success as a UT student. Divided into fields, these communities include public policy, business, honors, engineering, leadership, music, art and architecture, and agriculture.

International Student Testimonials

What I love about UT most is its ‘volunteer spirit.’ People here are really nice and helpful when you need assistance with something. The atmosphere is friendly and comfortable; this is one reason I stayed in this college. ‘Go Vols’ has now become one of my favorite phrases to say! -Mengjie, China

One thing I like about UT is that it is in Knoxville, TN which has a relatively low cost of living and is very affordable for students. Knoxville is also situated at the base of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park which has lot of opportunities for relaxing out in nature. UT also has world class athletic, recreational and academic tutoring facilities for the overall development of the student. But the best thing about UT is its football and basketball seasons. Students here love sports and are proud of their UT team and this makes for a great college experience. I love UT and I will be a ‘VOL’ for life. -Rajesh, India

What I like the most about being a student at UT is the education program. The program that I am in prepares me for the next step in my intended career path. The program does not only prepare me for my career but also teaches me to always have a backup plan, and helps me be sure of what I really want for my career. The professors are very nice and if I need help, they are just one question away. My adviser has helped me so much in my college career! -Asti, Indonesia
